Why a video call helps
It's the quickest way to know the person matches their photos.
Fake profiles often use someone else's pictures. A short video call shows you who you're really talking to, and gives you a feel for the chemistry before you arrange to meet.
Before you call
- Chat on the site first until you feel comfortable.
- Only share contact details you're happy to give out.
- Choose a background that doesn't show where you live.
Warning signs
- Always an excuse not to video call, such as a broken camera or bad signal, every time.
- Pressure to do anything you're not comfortable with on camera.
- Any mention of money, gift cards or paying for anything.
Never do anything on camera you wouldn't want shared. If anyone threatens to share images of you, stop all contact and report it. Read how to spot a fake dating profile.
